What students need to know:

You will love this class!  People who have taken the class repeatedly say they have learned to think more clearly and are no longer intimidated by people who try to use fancy vocabulary to confuse them.  This class starts out pretty easy but quickly challenges your brain. It may be the most difficult class you ever take but you will love every minute - and hate admitting that to people when they ask!

What parents need to know:

We all want our children to think logically and reasonably.  But this doesn't always come naturally. This takes intentional instruction. With over eight years of experience tutoring this course, Ms. Stephanie will confidently convey difficult concepts in a simple to understand method. Logic is the art of reasoning well—of learning to think God's thoughts after Him. In this book, the authors lay the proper foundation of reasoning in the truth of God and go on to train students in the crucial skills of defining terms, recognizing basic types of statements, arguing with syllogisms, arguing in ordinary language, and identifying informal fallacies.  This text, together with Intermediate Logic, provides students with a rigorous course in logic that will help them excel in every other subject they will study, from math and science to rhetoric and the humanities. I recommend purchasing the student and teacher books, the test booklets, and the DVDs – especially for the Intermediate book. Feel free to buy used teacher manuals but the 5th edition gives the best instruction.

This material needs time to marinate in the brain. Class will be 1.5 hours long to allow for review, practice, and learn. Students will receive a full syllabus, have the videos done by Mr. Nance, and videos done by me to help them during the week when they are not in class. Please note that the early chapters are more easily navigated and will be covered in the first two months when class meets less frequently. Beginning in November, the class will meet every week.
