American Government

$200/ student + $10 material fee

(Ages 13-18, parents attend free)

What students need to know:

This is an interactive class that will teach all about American Government. You may get to make decisions as a legislator, a Supreme Court Justice, or even the President.  You will spend four full days learning all about how our government works.  We will cover the following:

  • Types of governments

  • Government structure & roles (including federal and state)

  • US Constitution

  • How a Bill becomes a Law

  • The  Legislative Branch

  • The Executive Branch

  • The Judicial Branch

  • Current Events Issues

  • International Relations/ Diplomatic Issues

  • Dispelling myths about government powers & responsibilities

  • One project/ presentation

What parents need to know:

This class will involve 16 hours of in class time and 16 hours of homework.

(4 hours on Friday, 1 hour/ day of homework Monday-Thursday)  It will also include one field trip to either the Supreme Court, Congress, or the Maryland Legislature. (6 hours) This class, coupled with Mock Trial, will be more than enough to cover the Maryland required government credit for high school.


This class will not have an actual text, but all materials and a syllabus will be distributed to students.  Students wil be given reading material to prepare for class the first day and subsequent classes thereafter. There is a $10 materials fee.
